Police: 2 Arrested After Elderly Couple Robbed Overnight

Madison police have arrested two suspects in a home invasion robbery that occurred Tuesday night on the city's north side.

An elderly couple was lying in bed late when three men broke into their house and stole their belongings, Madison police said.

The incident happened just before midnight in the 1800 block of Thackeray Road.

Elanie Mani and her husband, Archie, were robbed just before midnight in their home in the 1800 block of Thackeray Road.

"We were in bed sleeping. I heard a noise and I thought (Archie) needed help, so I reached out to turn on the light and somebody said, 'Don't turn the light on.' Well, it was already on and there was this guy standing there with a gun pointing at me," Elanie Mani said.

Elanie Mani said three men with guns came in to their home just after midnight. One came into her room and two into her husband's room. She said the men told her to keep her hands on her chest. She said they took her jewelry and Archie's wallet.

The season opener will also be the first game for new Mallards manager Greg Labbe, who is looking forward to the challenge of bringing a title back to Madison.

"So far, we're off to a good start," Labbe said. "We've assembled a solid group of guys, and a lot of them are eager to get the season going."

When asked about the goals for the start of the season with the three games against the Rafters, Labbe had one thing on his mind: keep the team healthy.

Chicago Man Faces Sexual Assault Charges After Memorial Day Party

Chicago Man Faces Sexual Assault Charges After Memorial Day Party

Peaceful Memorial Day cookouts and picnics were marred Monday night on Madison's north side after a drunken Chicago man punched and groped several adults and a child, according to the Madison Police Department.

An 11-year-old boy was relaxing on a blanket with others when Darrin Johnson, 44, decided to sit with the group, police said.

Officers said that Johnson then tried to put his hand up the dress of an 18-year-old woman. When she rebuffed him, he reached for the crotch of the boy while making lewd comments, police said.

It was at this point that a 42-year-old woman, who was also on the blanket, decided it was time to pick everything up and go inside.

When she bent over to collect the picnic items, the suspect reached under her dress, police said. He then put another resident, a 48-year-old woman, in a headlock. After that he punched her in the head and knocked her down, police said.

Series Of Robberies In Madison Overnight

Four different robberies happened around Madison in about three hours overnight, and police said that they aren't sure if they're related to each other.

The first incident happened on an East Side bike path near Amoth Court at around 10:20 p.m. Monday. Police said the victim was walking on the bike path when two people approached him from behind. They demanded money, but he didn't have any, according to police. So, the victim emptied his pockets and ran from the area.

Police are looking for two black men in this case. One man was about 5 feet 9 inches tall and wearing a blue and white shiny jacket. The other man was about 6 feet tall and wearing all dark clothes.

The victim went to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening head injury.

Madison Area Music Association Awards Set For Next Week

A Madison organization that works to keep music education in public schools is having their 8th annual awards show next Saturday.

The Madison Area Music Association (MAMA) helps to provide musical instruments to local students while funding music programs. Organizers said that it's a crucial service to provide in light of the upcoming budget cuts coming to Wisconsin schools.

"So, we?re helping provide instruments for them and to help their music programs, but we're also trying to recognize the artists that are working professionally in the community now," said Rick Tvedt, of the Madison Area Music Association.

To that latter goal, the MAMA Awards recognizing Madison-area musicians is coming up.

The award show, which will feature 10 to 15 live performances, will take place Saturday, Jun. 4, at the Capitol Theater in the Overture Center.
