New Duck Pond To Be On Display During High School Baseball Game

New Duck Pond To Be On Display During High School Baseball Game

The first event to be held in the newly-renovated Madison Mallards Duck Pond at Warner Park will be a high school baseball game between Madison East and Madison LaFollette on Friday, May 27 at 7:05 p.m.

Normally, the Duck Pond is the home field for both schools, but with the ongoing $1.8M ballpark construction project that began in the fall, each school had to relocate to different venues this season.

Admission is free for the seven-inning contest; however, a $4 donation is suggested with half of the proceeds benefiting the Madison Parks Foundation and the other half benefiting the Habitat for Humanity of Dane County.

Proceeds from concessions will be split evenly between the two participating high schools.

The event will provide a sneak peak for baseball fans to check out the Mallard's spectacular new home.

Tickets are available at the Mallards box office or via phone by calling 608.316.DUCK (3825).

Copper Piping Stolen From Local Restaurant

Copper Piping Stolen From Local Restaurant

A faulty air conditioner required a call to police rather than a repair service on May 10 after an employee realized that copper piping from the unit had been removed.

Madison police said copper tubing was cut out of the air conditioning unit at the Prime Quarter Steak House at 3520 East Washington Avenue.

Police said an employee tried to turn on the air conditioning system and found it broken.

It will cost the restaurant about $8,000 to replace the unit, police said.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.

Police: Passenger Robs Taxi Cab Driver

Madison police are looking for a man who they say ripped some cash out of a cab driver's hand early Thursday morning after he was being dropped off at a residence on the city's East Side.

The incident happened just after 2 a.m. on Thursday in the 1700 block of Rowland Avenue.

According to police, the passenger grabbed the money right after he arrived on Rowland. A struggle ensued, and the passenger implied he had a gun. Once the passenger got the money, he ran away from the cab.

Police are looking for a black man, about 25 to 30 years old and weighing about 160 to 170 pounds. The man was wearing dreadlocks that extend just below his shoulders and his face was unshaven at the time of the attack. The man was last seen wearing a Chicago Bears zip-down hooded sweatshirt and baggy jeans.

Authorities said that anyone who may the know the whereabouts of someone meeting this description should call Madison Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.

Sun Prairie Woman Targeted In Real Estate Scam

Sun Prairie Woman Targeted In Real Estate Scam

A 28-year-old Sun Prairie woman figured out a scam before wiring any funds to Africa, but not before sending some of her personal information, according to a Madison Police Department fraud investigation.

The woman told police she was looking for rental properties on Madison's north side when she saw a Craiglist listing for a home on Browning Road.

She called the number and the person on the line had a thick accent and said he was doing missionary work in Africa and was not able to deal with her in person. Instead the man said once the woman wired him a $500 deposit, he would send her the keys.

The woman said she got a gut feeling and found the home was listed by a local real estate agent who said the home was for sale and that he had received at least 15 similar calls.

The victim did send a rental application to Africa, which contained personal information, prior to figuring out she was being victimized.
