Title (Max 100 Characters)
Four Madison schools are hosting Read Your Heart Out celebrations on Friday, Feb. 11.
SANKOFA is an West African Akan word that means "We must go back and reclaim our past so we can move forward; so we can understand why and how we came to be who we are today."
SANKOFA is also the theme of this year's Read Your Heart Out celebrations at Mendota Elementary, Hawthorne Elementary, Lowell Elementary and Falk Elementary.
This year's Read Your Heart Out Event celebrates National African American Read-In Day and National African American Parent Involvement Day. Each school is hosting a read-in event. There will be food, reading and special community guests.
Falk, Lowell and Hawthorne Schools will have community guest readers and families attend in the morning from 10 a.m to 1:30 p.m. Mendota School is celebrating Read Your Heart Out from noon to 2:30 p.m.
