Local Rescue To Host Annual English Springer Spaniel Picnic

The sixth annual English Springer Spaniel Picnic will be held on Sunday, Oct. 9 at Token Creen Park, located on Highway 51 just north of Madison.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

The large fenced in dog exercise area is all the way to the end of the park and the group will have the pavilion nearest to that area reserved.

Folks should look for the English Springer Rescue America sign.

Cost for the event is $4 for each dog and all breeds are welcome. Dogs will need to have a leash on them at all times. No flexi-leads are allowed.

There will be a fall-themed photo area to grab the perfect picture of your family, various games with prizes and much more.

There will be barbecue, but folks are asked to bring a dish to pass and to bring their own beverages and dinnerware. 

Online Auction Supporting Local Businesses Is Under Way

Organizers said that an online auction selling local goods to benefit the nonprofit organization Dane Buy Local is off to a successful start.

Dane Buy Local said the hyper-local project uses technology and social media to support the common message of buying and supporting local business.

DANE Exclusive Deals is using Facebook and SMS text message tools to host a Bid-A-Thon, an online auction, which is happening now and will end on Sept. 30 at 5 p.m.

Participants can bid on over 250 gift cards and prizes from various local businesses.

An online auction is being held later this month in which all proceeds will benefit the nonprofit organization Dane Buy Local.

The mission of Dane Buy Local is to support local businesses within the community while raising awareness of the importance of buying locally.

Participants will have the opportunity to bid on more than 250 gift cards and prizes from various local businesses. REACH A Child To Host Figure 8 The Lakes Bike Ride

REACH a Child will host Figure 8 the Lakes, a 35 or 50 mile bicycle ride completing a figure 8 around Lakes Mendota and Monona.

The event will begin and end at the Nautigal Restaurant on the North Shore of Lake Mendota on Saturday, Aug. 27.

There will be stops for lunch, snacks, ice cream and enjoy the views of the lake.

The cost to participate is $40.

Proceeds from this event will benefit REACH a Child, an organization that has provided books to children in crisis since 2008. 

100 Black Men Of Madison To Host Annual Backpacks For Success Picnic

 

All Dane County elementary and middle school students and their parents are invited to a back to school picnic on Saturday, Aug. 20.

The 100 Black Men of Madison's annual Backpacks for Success Picnic will be held at Demetral Park (corner of Commercial Avenue and Packers Avenue) in Madison.

New backpacks filled with school supplies will be given, free of charge, to all students who attend.  A lunch featuring all beef hotdogs will also be served.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A variety of entertainment and educational experiences will also be provided.
