Suspect In Bus Driver Battery Case Arrested

Bus surveillance video was used to identify a 17-year-old who punched a bus driver in the face on Jan. 2, according to the Madison Police Department.

Police said the 63-year-old Madison Metro bus driver was punched in the face by Abraham Thomas after he refused to stop the bus for one of Thomas' relatives. Police said the driver explained that it is policy not to stop a moving bus because of safety concerns and a past injury.

No passengers would make a statement to police on the day of the battery, but thanks to the video, an arrest was made Tuesday afternoon.

Thomas faces a charge of battery to a transit operator.

Christmas Morning Crash Leads To Drug, OWI Charges

A 28-year-old Madison man faces a series of charges after police responded to a call of a reckless driver and subsequent accident early Christmas morning, according to the Madison Police Department.

Officials said they arrived at the 3500 block of East Washington Avenue at about 6 a.m. and found a car, driven by Shande J. Shaw, up on a snow bank on the south side of the street. Shaw told police that he was there helping his girlfriend get the car removed, but witnesses said Shaw was only person in the vehicle that had been driving against traffic in both east and westbound lanes.

AWOL Inmate Taken Back Into Custody

An inmate from the Dane County Jail that was declared AWOL on Wednesday after he failed to return from a job interview was taken into custody from a residence on Madison's North Side , according to the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

Joshua L. Dancy, 23, of Madison, is serving a probation sentence for armed robbery, officials said. He was found at a residence on Wright Street and arrested with assistance from Madison police, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

Dancy was released Wednesday morning on the conditions of his work-release status.

Drug Bust Leads To 1 Arrest, Possibly More To Come

Officers responded to the 1500 block of Wheeler Road on the evening of Dec. 17 in reference to complaints regarding drug trafficking, according to the Madison Police Department.

When police arrived at the home, they found Daniel Kellesvig. Police said they smelled the odor of burnt Marijuana at the door. A further investigation showed a variety of drugs and associated paraphernalia, including needles, foil, scales, tin cups and more.

They said Kellesvig faces charges of possession of heroin, THC-repeater and drug paraphernalia. He also faces a probation violation charge in connection to a past strong-armed robbery charge.

This investigation continues as there may be charges culminating out of items located at the residence, and the connection with other individual, according to police.

Good Samaritan Assaulted On North Side

A 73-year-old Madison man became the victim of a violent robbery after trying to help a woman and her child.

The man told police he was running an errand near his North Street home Saturday afternoon when a woman with a child approached him. She said she needed money to get a hotel room for her son, and if he gave her his address, she would repay him in a few hours. The woman was with boy, who the victim estimates was 9 or 10 years old, along with two men near a white four-door car.

The man gave the woman money and several hours later, she showed up at his door with the two men. The victim was pistol-whipped, pushed down, punched and kicked, according to the police incident report. The intruders also took his wallet before leaving the scene.

Police said the victim suffered a cut to his head. Paramedics from the fire department checked out his injury, but he was not taken to the hospital.

2 Teens Arrested On Strong-Armed Robbery Charge

Two 14-year-old Sherman Middle School students were arrested Tuesday on charges of strong-armed robbery after stealing an iPhone from a 13-year-old boy, according to the Madison Police Department.

The victim told police he was slapped in the face and pushed up against a wall shortly after classes ended, which would have been a few minutes after 2:30 p.m. He said one teen pinned him while the other reached into his pocket and took his iPhone.

The teens then ran off and the victim contacted school staff, police said. They were later contacted at their homes and arrested, according to police.

Police Investigate Child Enticement On City's North Side

A Madison mother has filed a report regarding a possible child enticement involving her daughter and a friend Nov. 11 on the city's North Side, according to the Madison Police Department.

The incident happened Nov. 11, sometime after 3 p.m. on a cross street to Aberg Avenue. The mother told police her 15-year-old daughter was walking with a friend, also a teenage girl, when a man driving a black Dodge Charger stopped to talk with them.

He asked for their names and made sexual remarks, according to the report filed by the mother. She said the girls fled to the home of a trusted adult and the man drove away.

The man is described as black with a medium complexion, hair worn in braids and a mustache, according to the report. Police said the man was driving a black Dodge Charger, possibly with Kentucky plates.
