Armed Man Robs Restaurant On Madison's North Side

Madison police are investigating an armed robbery at a north side restaurant Saturday night.

Police said a man came into Smokey Jon's #1 BBQ at 2310 Packers Ave. about 8 p.m. Saturday armed with a handgun.

The man grabbed an employee and pointed the gun at her. He then took money from the restaurant and fled westbound on foot, police said. He was last seen on Manley Street.

No one was injured in the incident, police said.

Police said the robber was described as a black man, approximately 25 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. He was wearing a blue sweater or blue hoodie, dark pants and a "Jason" mask, police said.

Counterfeit Bills Passed On Drug Store

Three counterfeit $20 bills were used at a Walgreen's on East Washington Avenue last week, according to the Madison Police Department.

Police said the assistant manager of the store at 3710 E. Washington Ave. called police on Oct. 4 to report the phony bills.

Two bills had the serial number 1k08539088C, and one had the serial number gk69201673b, police said.

Anyone with information about the counterfeit money is asked to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.

Bizarre Crime Spree Targets Eken Neighborhood

A bizarre crime spree occurred on Thursday night in the Eken Park neighborhood.

Madison police said a series of home invasions near Moland Street on the city's north side occurred after a man claimed he had ingested an assortment of drugs and was being chased by men he had met in a bar.

Just before 7 p.m., a man clad in camouflage shorts and a bowling shirt got into two homes. Later he was found on his back, breathing heavily, while lying on the porch of a third home where three children were inside.

The man, later identified as James M. Kruger, 34, got inside the first home and took off his bowling shirt and locked a back door. The 56-year-old homeowner yelled for him to get out. He left and was later found inside another home hiding in a closet. 

Eventually he was tackled in a driveway by a couple of neighbors and a Madison Police detective.

Police Seek Public's Help In Identifying Those Responsible For Auto Thefts

More than $2,700 was taken via stolen credit cards over the past several days, according to the Madison Police Department.

Officials said they are seeking help in identifying two individuals who were spotted on surveillance cameras using the stolen cards.

Police said they are hoping that the public can help them identify the woman carrying the white shopping bag and wearing a red top in the photo above and the name of the person who is in the background of the second photo wearing a white hat.

Both used a card stolen from a car parked at the Odana Hills Golf Course on Saturday afternoon, police said. A 59-year-old Verona man was golfing when someone smashed out his car's passenger's side window and stole his wallet, police said.

Mugging Victim Reports Crime To Police

An 18-year-old Madison man contacted police on Wednesday afternoon to report a mugging that took place Tuesday night.

The victim said he and another man were walking together having left a party on Kipling Drive, according to the Madison Police Department.

The victim told police they were on a Packers Avenue frontage road, near the intersection with Aberg Avenue, when two men approached.

One punched him and the other pulled him down while demanding money. The second victim was struck in the face with a handgun, police said.

The first victim said he had no money and had nothing taken during the assault. He said he only knew the first name of the second victim, but that he had a cell phone and cigarettes stolen in the incident.

The second victim has not contacted police about the mugging.
