U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will visit Madison East High School on Wednesday, April 18 at 9 a.m. to hold a town hall meeting to discuss college affordability and access with students.

"We’re thrilled to host Sec. Duncan at East High School and give our students the chance to talk directly with the country’s top education officer," said Superintendent Dan Nerad in  a news release.

The district’s preliminary plan to address the achievement gap includes expansion of college academy programs and successful programs like the district’s partnership with the Boys and Girls Club through the AVID/TOPs college prep program.

Students will hear remarks from the superintendent as well as a student in the AVID/TOPs program before holding a question and answer with the secretary.
