North Madison Resident Warns Of Scam | News
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
A 72-year-old Madison man called for police after a person over the phone tried to get him to go to a local drug store and purchase items called "green dot MoneyPaks."
The Madisonian was asked to buy two, a $500 and a $250 MoneyPak, Madison police said.
The person on the phone said the debit card-style products were to be given to a prize patrol delivery person named Bobby Johnson. The caller said Johnson was to going to be arriving at the man’s home soon with a $8,500 check from Seattle-based Winners International, police said.
The victim called the drug store and confirmed the scam, and then he called police.
An officer came to the victim's home. They returned the phone call to the caller, but this time the police officer took the phone and said, "If you are a legitimate businessman, then send your delivery man to the MPD's North District."
The person on the other end of the phone said he would not do that and hung up.
