Madison police have identified four men who they are calling "persons of interest" in the north side shooting that injured one man on Wednesday night.
Police released the names and photos of four men -- identified as Robert T. Williams, 29, Terrance Frazier, 24, Byran Lindsey, 22, and Demitrius Morris, 27 -- on Thursday afternoon.
The 27-year-old victim was taken to a hospital and underwent surgery. Police said the man is in serious but stable condition on Thursday.
The shooting happened around 10:50 p.m. in the 2500 block of Brentwood Parkway, near Warner Park.
Witnesses said there were several people outside during the shooting because of a prior disturbance. They said that cars had been racing up and down the street, and a cat was run over. The shooting happened shortly after that, residents said.
"Two guys had come running out of that parking lot and you heard gunshots and that guy, he just dropped. You knew he got hit," said onlooker Dan Evans. "And I just ran down there and tried to help him out until we got an (emergency medical technician) over there."
Evans said he heard about 15 gunshots.
According to a police news release, Police Capt. Cam McLay said that their investigation "continues to suggest that victims and suspect (s) knew one another, and that this was not a random act."
Police said that the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
Police are asking anyone with information about the men to call 608-266-4275.
