City officials approve taxicab stands in downtown
Madison city officials announced on Wednesday the creation of eight taxicab stands to be placed downtown.
Mayor Paul Soglin pushed for the creation of the stands, arguing that there were too many taxis on State Street. He said that the cabs' presence clogged traffic on what was intended to be the city's main pedestrian walkway.
The new stands will be located adjacent to State Street, from Lake to Dayton streets.
The stands will be open from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., which are the peak demand hours, officials said.
The stand locations include:
- 400 N. Frances
- 300 W. Gorham
- 500 N. Lake
- 300 W. Johnson
- 200 N. Henry
- Dayton Street
- Mills Street
- 600 Block of University Avenue
