Burglary victim uses surveillance video to catch teens | News

Madison police said a 29-year-old burglary victim used surveillance video to help officers catch two teenage suspects.

Her car was broken into in the underground parking garage of her apartment complex on July 16, and photos of the teens that broke into her car were taken at that time, according to police.

Saturday morning, police said the victim recognized one of the teens sleeping in a stairwell of her Northridge Terrace apartment building. Officers found the teen in the building with a second teen, according to police.

Police said the 17-year old denied being in the garage at the time of the crime, but the officer told him there were photos.

"I would like to see that, because I wasn't in no parking garage stealing anything," he told police.

That?s when an officer showed him a photo.

"Aw, yeah, that is me," he admitted to police, but he denied being the one who stole the computer.

The two teens have identified a third teen as the primary culprit, according to police. That teen has not yet been found.

Madison police have created a YouTube video that shows citizens what they can do to help prevent their vehicles from being targeted by thieves.
