MMSD releases budget recommendations

The Madison Metropolitan School District presented its preliminary budget recommendations on Friday for the Board of Education’s review.

"This preliminary budget recommendation makes strategic choices to fill our budget gap and lays a strong foundation for the important work ahead," Superintendent Dan Nerad said.

The budget recommendations fill the district’s budget gap, maintain current programs and include:

Goodman Pool Waves to host informational meeting

The Goodman Pool Waves invite all prospective swim team members to an Informational Meeting on Wednesday, April 11 at 7 p.m. at Warner Park Community Recreation Center at 1625 Northport Dr. 

The meeting is designed to be a Q&A for parents and swim team members. Families will learn about scholarship opportunities, meet the coach and see what being a part of the Waves is all about.

The Waves Swim Team is open to youth ages 6-18.

Warner Park Rec Center To Host Kids Day Out

Madison Parks is pleased to host Kids Day Out, for the first time ever on Saturday, April 14 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Warner Park Community Recreation Center.

The Madison Parks Kids Day Out will give energetic children a chance to play, laugh and have fun with friends and family.

There will be music, games, activities, a bouncy house and open gym available to inspire fun and get your kids moving and ready for Spring.

Admission is $1 at the door, and concessions will be available for purchase.

This event is great for kids 4 to 8 years old. Adult supervision is required.

Kids Day Out will be held at Warner Park Community Recreation Center, located at 1625 Northport Drive.

Community members and concerned parents gathered at West High School to discuss district plans to close the racial gap in student learning

Madison residents gathered Tuesday night at West High School for the first in a series of public meetings to discuss Madison Metropolitan School District’s (MMSD) plan to address the district’s achievement gap in student learning.

In the school’s library, community members, concerned parents and MMSD employees formed small groups to share feedback and ideas regarding key programs and initiatives proposed in the plan.

City Parks Department To Host Mother, Son Luau Event

Madison Parks is pleased to host the Mother/Son Luau, for the first time on Friday, Feb. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Warner Park Community Recreation Center. 

Families are invited to come enjoy a tropical-themed event full of games and dancing complete with refreshments and music provided by a live DJ.

Organizers said to make sure not to leave before getting a Mother/Son photograph in your Luau apparel as a keepsake of a fun-filled night.

Mothers (or other adult loved ones), don’t miss out on a chance to spend some quality time with your son. This event is great for sons 6 to 12 years old.

Tickets are $15 per Mother/Son couple and $5 for each additional son.

Tickets are available through Warner Park Community Recreation Center
