A Madison man who often helps pick up trash in Demetral Park called for police Saturday afternoon after finding a handgun, according to the Madison Police Department.

Police said the black 9 mm was inside a plastic bag. It was rusted, wet, covered in mud and the serial number appeared to have been filed off, police said. 

One live round was also discovered in the bag, police said.

The weapon, which appeared to have been in the location for some time, was seized and property tagged by police.

Officials have not said if the gun has been linked to any crimes in the area.
